The Epson TM-C7500 color label printer comes in two versions, matte and gloss, each sharing the same print technology but with its own unique purpose. Why does Epson have two versions of this printer? What would you use each printer for? Which version is right for you?
Epson initially produced one model of the Epson TM-C7500 color label printer, which was intended for printing durable industrial and GHS BS5609 chemical labels. The Epson TM-C7500 color label printer uses pigment-based inks to print durable industrial and chemical labels. In fact, the Epson TM-C7500 color label printer is BS5609-certified to print the most durable labels. Whether printing standard or BS5609 labels, the ColorWorks C7500’s pigment-based inks require labels that can produce a good bond with the inks for long-term durability. Thus, most labels used with the Epson TM-C7500 color label printer come with a matte topcoat which produces the best bond with these inks.
The Epson TM-C7500 color label printer proved to be popular thanks to its speed, print quality, and durability. It’s a fantastic label printer! Many owners of the Epson TM-C7500 wanted the ability to print high gloss finished labels for their products and other purposes (meaning non-GHS BS5609 labels), but found that the printer’s pigment-based inks weren’t compatible with most glossy synthetic label materials like polypropylene and glossy clear labels. Epson responded by introducing a gloss version of the Epson TM-C7500, which has a “G” after the C7500. The Epson TM-C7500G (Gloss) printer uses modified inks better able to bond with high gloss (glossy) label materials.
The Epson TM-C7500 (Matte) color label printer is best for printing matte industrial and chemical labels such as:

* Oil-, water-, and chemical drum labels
* Durable labels and tags
* Specimen sample labels
* Healthcare labels
* Marine labels
* Pool supply labels
Though the underlying print technology is the same between these two printers, the ink cartridges are printer-specific. The ink cartridges are not interchange. Thus, the Epson TM-C7500 (Matte) label printer can only use the matte inks while the Epson TM-C7500G (Gloss) label printer can only use the glossy inks.

Product labels such as those listed above are often printed on high gloss stock because the glossy finish gives the labels a more polished appearance. The Epson TM-C7500G (Gloss) color label printer is capable of producing attractive 1200 x 600 dpi labels on glossy label materials such as glossy polypropylene, glossy clear labels, high gloss paper, and glossy polyester labels.
Note that the Epson TM-C7500G (Gloss) label printer does NOT print GHS BS5609 compliant labels like its matte sibling. If you need GHS BS5609 compliance and maximum durability for harsh environments, you should purchase the Epson TM-C7500 (Matte) model.
