Both the Epson WF-C5790 and the Xerox WorkCentre 6515/DN are capable color multifunction printers built for small workgroups. They have a lot in common, a couple of differences, and are reliable workhorses used in offices across the United States. With about a 6 page per minute difference in print speed, it’s easy to believe the Xerox WorkCentre 6515/DN is the faster printer. However, other factors affect speed, and these two printers are actually closer than you think. Let’s take a look.
As a laser printer, the Xerox WorkCentre 6515/DN offers a print speed of 30 ISO pages per minute. This color laser printer prints, scans, copies, and faxes as well as offers network, remote, and wireless connectivity. The Xerox WorkCentre 6515/DN produces professional results at 2400 dpi print resolution and is intended for workgroups of 2 to 7. This is a well-equipped multifunction color laser printer with all of the features an office needs.
The Epson WorkForce Pro WF-C5790 offers a print speed of 24 ISO pages per minute, so it is technically slower than the Xerox WorkCentre 6515/DN (more on that shortly). It is also a multifunction printer that prints, copies, scans, and faxes over the network (Ethernet and USB), wirelessly, or remotely. The Epson WF-C5790 has a print resolution of up to 4800 dpi. It is also well-equipped for office use.
Because it is an inkjet printer, the Epson WF-C5790 has some operational and financial advantages over the Xerox WorkCentre 6515/DN. The Epson WF-C5790 is energy efficient due to its Heat-Free Technology. Its inks are incredibly affordable thanks to Epson’s Replaceable Ink Pack System. This printer comes standard with starter cartridges, retailing for $299. The Epson WF-C5790 “Supertank” model includes the starter cartridges plus 11 additional RIPS ink packs (2 black and 3 of each color), representing two full years’ worth of ink. The Supertank model is just $899, which is actually less than the cost of the included ink, so it’s like buying the ink and getting the printer for free.
While the Xerox WorkCentre 6515/DN has a faster print speed according to its specs, the printer must first warm up before the first page is printed. This isn’t necessary on the Epson WF-C5790 with Epson Heat-Free Technology. As a result, the Epson WF-C5790 can begin printing immediately while the Xerox WorkCentre 6515/DN must first warm up. For practical purposes, the speed differences between these two printers shrink.
For example, in the video below, the two printers are printing the same 8-page document side by side. Check it out and see the speed comparison for yourself.
